United States embargo against Brazilian Space Program projects. | PART3 | CBERS | SCBR

 This edition shows how embargoes hinder the development of the Brazilian Space Program.

In the video, the Director of Research and Development at Opto Space & Defense (formerly OPTO Eletrônica) Mario Antonio Stefani gives an account of the boycotts suffered by the company during the development of the multispectral camera (MUX camera) used in Brazilian satellites. The equipment, which was developed for the CBERS and Amazonia family of satellites, was boycotted by the American government during the development process.
The project received several interferences and all of them were documented with the Ministry of Science and Technology.

The United States embargo against projects of the Brazilian Space Program results in delays in their schedules, the boycotted components have to be developed nationally "from scratch". In addition to the delay in the development of the projects, the boycott makes Brazilian contracted companies suffer official sanctions from the Brazilian government (the American embargo is also an economic embargo), since there is no regulation designed by companies that participate in high technological risk projects.

Many Brazilian industries that are part of the Industrial Defense Base are suppliers of the Brazilian Space Program, AVIBRAS has a large participation in the sounding rocket program, such as VSB-30, which is launched from the Alcântara base. OPTO Space & Defense (formerly OPTO Eletronica) is part of the AKAER Group and is responsible for many components of Brazil's satellites, in the video it is specifically talked about the MUX camera, a camera that is embedded in the CBERS 4A and Amazonia 1 satellites.

The Amazonia-1 satellite was recently launched and, according to IMPE, it already generates images for the application of remote sensing. As Brazil (Brazilian Space Program 2021) does not yet have a satellite launching rocket, the launch was carried out by India.
